  1. Technical information

  2. 1.1 Organization

    The MONTEPIO race is a competition organized by Associação Mutualista Montepio (Montepio mutual association), in support of the Instituição Comunidade Vida e Paz.

     

    1.2 Race – Date/Time/location

    • 10km Run:October 27th, Sunday, 10:00 am starting and finishing at Rossio and finishing.
    • 5km Walk: October 27th, Sunday, 10:20, starting and finishing at Rossio.
    • Pelicas Race (children): October 27th, Sunday, 9:15, starting and finishing at Rossio.

     

    1.3 Distance

    The event comprises three races: a 10 km run, a 5km walk and a race for children ages 5-11, with a distance between 300 and 700 meters.

     

    1.4 Route

    10km – Run (main event)

    Starting at Praça Dom Pedro IV ( praça do Rossio) – Rua do Ouro – Terreiro do Paço –turning right to Av. Ribeira das Naus – turning left to Cais do Sodré – Av. 24 de Julho – Av. da Índia – coming back before the Hospital Egas Moniz access – Av. da Índia – Av. 24 de Julho – Cais do Sodré – turning right to Av. Ribeira das Naus – turn left to Terreiro do Paço – Rua do Ouro – Praça Dom Pedro IV ( praça do Rossio), Finishing line.

    5km – Walk

    Starting at Praça Dom Pedro IV ( praça do Rossio no lado da “Pastelaria Suíça”) – Rua da Betesga – Rua da Prata – Terreiro do Paço –turning left into Av. Infante Dom Henrique – turning back into “disco Lux” – Av. Infante Dom Henrique – turning right into Rua da Prata – turning left into Rua da Betesga – turning right into Praça Dom Pedro IV (praça do Rossio no lado da “Pastelaria Suíça”), Finishing line.

    The 10km and 5km race courses might change subject to road works in Lisbon city.

    Pelicas Race – Children

    • Bambis * (born between 2013 and 2014) – approximately 300 meters

    Starting at Praça Dom Pedro IV (Praça do Rossio right to “ Pastelaria Suíça”) – Rua do Ouro –turning back at Rua do Ouro – Rua do Ouro – turning right into Praça Dom Pedro IV  – turning left into para Praça Dom Pedro IV (praça do Rossio no lado da “ Pastelaria Suíça”), Finishing line.

    • Benjamins A (born between 2010 and 2012) – approximately 500 meters

    Starting at Praça Dom Pedro IV (Praça do Rossio on the right side of “Pastelaria Suíça”) – Rua do Ouro – turning back in front of the Montepio building – Rua do Ouro – turning right into Praça Dom Pedro IV – turning left into Praça Dom Pedro IV (praça do Rossio on the right side of  “Pastelaria Suíça”), Finishing line.

    • Benjamins B (born between 2008 and 2009) – approximately 700 meters

    Partida na Praça Dom Pedro IV (Praça do Rossio on the right side of “Pastelaria Suíça”) – Rua do Ouro – turning back in front of “My Story Hotel Ouro” – Rua do Ouro – turning right into Praça Dom Pedro IV – turning left into Praça Dom Pedro IV (praça do Rossio right next to “Pastelaria Suíça”), Finishing line.

    The courses will start and end in Praça do Rossio
    * Bambis may be accompanied by an adult.

     

    1.5 Refreshments

    10km – Run (main event)

    The organizers will provide two refreshment stops on the route at the third and seventh kilometer, and one more at the finish line.

    5 km – Walk

    The organizers will provide refreshments at the halfway mark and the finish.

    Pelicas Race – Children

    The organizers will provide refreshments at the finish.

     

    1.6 Starting line

    Participants shall be present at the starting line with the equipment provided by the organizers – runner number or runner number and chip for the respective race, in accordance with Point 4.1 in the rules.

     

    1.7 Starting blocks

    The 10km starting line will be divided into blocks, which correspond to the different levels of physical preparation of the athletes.

    As a reference, race times over a minimum distance of 10km from the last year should be used.

    To take advantage of the Elite B, SUB45 ‘, SUB50 ‘ or SUB60 ‘ starting blocks, it is mandatory to present a time record, obtained from a 10km race from within the last year.

    The application must be sent to info@corridamontepio.pt, with the runner number + athlete’s name + link or race certificate.

    Applications are only accepted up to October 13th, 2019. The organizers will not accept applications after that period.

    Applications sent after October 1st 2018 will not be considered.

    For all participants to enjoy the MONTEPIO race, the organizers will split the race into three blocks:

    All athletes must be ready at their block before 10 a.m. The entry to the blocks will be close at 10 am and all athletes who have not entered their block until that time, will enter at the 3rd Block (+ 60′).

    Chip times will only be activated when the athlete passes the starting line. In this way, leaving in second or third place does not entail a penalty in the race time.

    The final classification will be ordered according to official time.

    The chip time and the respective classification may be consulted in the electronic race certificate.

     

    1.8 Duration

    The race has a maximum duration of 2 hours after the start, ending at 12:00pm.

    After that period the city authorities will restore vehicle access to the race course.

     

    1.9 Participant limit

    The 10km run and 5km walk are limited to 15,000 participants.

    The pelicas race is limited to 500 children.

     

    1.10 Conditions of participation

    The participation in the run, walk and children’s race is open to all those interested, without regard to nationality or sex, provided that they are duly registered in accordance with the regulations and within the time limit.

    The minimum age of participation in the 10km run is 18 years, applied until the date of the race in accordance with the rules of the FPA – Federação Portuguesa de Atletismo (Portuguese Athletics Federation) for races with distances equal to or greater than 10 km.

    For the safety of all participants, the participation of persons on bicycles, skates, rollerblades, wheelchairs or accompanied by animals will not be permitted. The organizers do not advise the participation of people with strollers or pushchairs.

     

    1.11 Timing system

    The organizers provides all runners in the 10km run who collect their kit with a chip-timing system. The chip is on the back of the runner number and cannot be taken off or removed. If the chip is taken off or removed by the athlete, the athlete will be disqualified. The chip is disposable and will not have to be returned at the end of the race.

     

    1.12 Medical assistance

    The Organization shall provide medical assistance at the start, the finish and throughout the course.

    • Start and finish lines:Tent with the capacity for hospitalization + ambulance evacuation.
    • On the route:Support Bikes + ambulance following behind the runners.

     

    1.13 Race conditions

    The organizers undertake to always choose the best possible routes, so as not to jeopardize the participants. However, they cannot take responsibility for the conditions of the road or the conditions/obstacles presented in the course of the race.

    The routes are approved by the respective municipal entities.

     

    1.14 Cancellation of race

    The cancellation of the race may occur due to external factors outside the control of the organizers, namely: natural disasters, strikes, protests, inability to use traffic routes, inability to use telecommunications, restrictions from the Government, new legislation.

    In such cases, the organizers reserve the right to provide an opinion on cancelation to be taken as a result of the severity of possible problems within 30 days of the date for carrying out the race.

     

    1.15 Complaints

    Complaints should be submitted in accordance with the regulations of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and the Portuguese Athletics Federation (FPA), submitting 50 euros with the complaint. This amount will be deposited until the complaint is resolved after the necessary time to check and consult the data presented. The amount will be refunded if the claim is upheld.

    Any complaint will have to be submitted in writing on the organizer’s letterhead at the event site.

     

    1.16 Safety and medical assistance in the course

    The police force shall be responsible for the management, planning, control and elimination of unauthorized transit in the course of the race, as well as guaranteeing the safety of the participants.

    Car traffic will be stopped along the entire route 15 minutes before the start.

    The reopening of car traffic will be happen 2 hours after the start.

    The organizers of the race will make Montepio medical support available to the participants, with ambulances readily available during the start, finish and duration of the race.

    If there is a need for additional emergency medical care, it will be supplied by the National Health Service, who will bear responsibility.

    The medical team will have the authority to withdraw from the race any participant who is not able to participate or who has received vital medical care.

  3. Information - Applying

  4. 2.1 Registration conditions and prices – 10 km and 5 km

    10km and 5km

    • Until 30th September: €5
    • Between 1st and 24th October: €8
    • 25th and 26th October: €15

    Pelicas Race (Children)

    • Price: €5

    All applications must be made before 26th October. No applications will be accepted on the day of the race. The organizers will close the registrations as soon as the 15,000 participants limit in the 10km race and 5km walk, and the 500 participants limit in the children’s race, are reached.

     

    2.2 Registration method

    Online entries are only accepted through the official website: montepio.org. In the registration the participants will declare, under their responsibility, that they meet the necessary health conditions for participation in the race and that they will refrain from participating if these conditions change.

     

    2.3 Method of payment

    Payments will be accepted through Mulitbanco codes which are automatically generated in the registration process, or by VISA. Each code has a maximum validity of 72 hours. After this validity, the code expires and it will be necessary for the athlete to make a new registration.

     

    2.4 Registration proceeds

    The value of all the proceeds from registration go, in full, to the Instituição Comunidade Vida e Paz.

     

    2.5 Receipts

    The payment receipts will be issued by the Instituição Comunidade Vida e Paz. To this end, the participant must enter his or her tax number in the application form. The receipts will be sent by e-mail by theInstituição Comunidade Vida e Paz.

     

    2.6 Closing of entries

    The organizers may at any time suspend or extend the deadlines, or add or limit the number of participants in the race according to technical/structural requirements/availability, without notice.

     

    2.7 Acceptance

    Upon signing up, all participants accept these rules and, in case of doubt or the emergence of situations not covered in the terms of conditions, shall inform the organizers.

    With the registration, all participants declare that they accept these rules.

    10 km run / 5km walk

    With the registration, all participants declare to accept the following conditions:

    a) I read and I agree with the terms and conditions of the MONTEPIO race, available on org.

    b) I am aware of my state of health and am physically and psychologically able to participate.

    c) I am committed to abstaining from participating in the MONTEPIO race if my health conditions change after registration.

    d) I am aware of the conditions of the insurance policy in place and I have read the specifications of it, contained in the race rules.

    e) By participating in the MONTEPIO race, I authorize the free and unconditional use by the MONTEPIO Mutual Association and the race partners of my image. Through this I cede all rights to the use of my image, as captured in photographs and filming, that will take place during the race, waiving the receipt of any amount that is to be received with its use in supporting communications.

    f) I participate in the MONTEPIO race of free and spontaneous will, exempting the MONTEPIO mutual association, partners, directors, employees and other companies related to the organization of the event of any liability arising from my participation in the MONTEPIO race before, during and after the event (e.g. loss of personal effects to theft or other circumstances).

    Teams – 10km

    The person responsible, by enrolling the members of the team, assumes that they all accept these rules and, in case of doubt or emergence of a situation not covered in the conditions, shall inform the organizers.

    They also accept the following conditions and in accordance with which they express:

    a) We read and we agree with the rules of the MONTEPIO race, available on montepio.org.

    b) We are aware of our state of health and that we are physically and psychologically able to participate.

    c) We are committed to abstaining from taking part in the MONTEPIO race if our health conditions change after registration.

    d) We are aware of the conditions of the insurance policy in place and we read the specifications of it, contained in the race rules.

    e) By participating in the MONTEPIO race, we authorize the free and unconditional use by the MONTEPIO Mutual Association and the race partners of our images. Through this we cede all rights to the use of our images, as captured in photographs and filming, that will take place during the race, waiving the receipt of any amount that is to be received with its use in supporting communications.

    f) We participate in the MONTEPIO race of free and spontaneous will, exempting the MONTEPIO mutual association, partners, directors, employees and other companies related to the organization of the event of any liability arising from our participation in the MONTEPIO race before, during and after the event (e.g. loss of personal effects to theft or other circumstances).

     

    Pelicas Race

    With the registration of the child, the parents, legal guardians and/or those in charge of education, accept these rules and, in case of doubt or emergence of a situation not covered in the terms and conditions, shall inform the Organizers.

    The legal guardian of the child also accepts the following terms and conditions, in terms of which it expressed that:

    a) I read and I agree with the regulation of the race MONTEPIO, available on montepio.org.

    b) I am aware of the state of health of the minor in my charge and of their physical and psychological ability to participate.

    c) I take the commitment not to allow the participation of the minor in my care in the Montepio race if their health conditions change after registration.

    d) I am aware of the conditions of the insurance policy in place and I have read the specifications of it, contained in the rules of the race.

    e) By participating in the MONTEPIO race, I authorize the free and unconditional use by the MONTEPIO Mutual Association and the race partners of the images of my child. Through this I cede all rights to the use of their image, as captured in photographs and filming, that will take place during the race, waiving the receipt of any amount that is to be received with its use in supporting communications.

    f) The minor in my care participates in the MONTEPIO race of free and spontaneous will, exempting the MONTEPIO Mutual Association, partners, directors, employees and other companies related to the organization of the event of any liability arising from the participation of the minor in my care in the MONTEPIO race, before, during and after the event (e.g. loss of personal objects to theft or other circumstances).

     

    2.8 Data processing

    Personal data shall be processed automatically, in accordance with the general data protection regulation of the European Union, by the organizers of the event. The data is subject solely for the provision of the services necessary to participate in the event for which you sign up.

    The processing of data for communications from the event in which your are registered is optional and subject to specific consent and expressed in the event registration form, in accordance with Directive 95/46/EC of 27 April 2016.

    The participants, in accordance with the same law, are guaranteed access to their data and may request in writing to the organizers its updating, correction or elimination.

    Personal data collected for this event will be stored for two years and will be accessible free of charge for consultation, rectification or deletion via email geral@hmssports.pt

     

    2.9 Insurance

    Participants must have the health conditions necessary for sporting activities. After the registration they declare that they feel physically and psychologically prepared for the physical effort inherent in the event in which they will participate.

    All participants, without exception, must have the necessary health conditions for sporting activities, exempting the race organizers, partners, supporters and public bodies involved of any responsibilities.

    The organizers of the race guarantee the registrant personal accident insurance, as provided in the D.L. 10/2009 (sports insurance) with a capital of death or invalidity of €27,087, treatment expenses up to €4,335 and funeral expenses up to €2,167.

    • Adults aged over 14

    The organizers of the race guarantee the registrant personal accident insurance, as provided in policy no CR/7/2013 (AAL Sports Insurance – season 2013/2014) with a capital of death or invalidity of €27,087, treatment expenses up to €4,335 and funeral expenses up to €2,167.

    • Minors up to 14 Years

    The organizers of the race guarantee the registrant personal accident insurance, as provided in the policy no CR/7/2013 (AAL Sports Insurance – season 2013/2014) with a capital of death or disability of only 10% of €27,087, treatment expenses up to €4,335 and funeral expenses up to €2,167.

    The organizers are not liable for situations that are not covered by this insurance.

     

    2.10 Age levels

    The following age levels shall be considered in the respective races:

    V60 *Male and female from 60 to 64 years.
    V65 *Male and female from 65 to 69 years.
    V70 *Male and female from 70 to 74 years.
    V75 *Male and female from 75 to 79 years.
    V80 *Male and female from 80 to 84 years.
    V85 *Male and female from 85 to 89 years.
    V90 *Male and female over 90 years.

    * In the 5km walk, all athletes born after the year 2001 will be considered as juniors.

    Pelicas Race

    • Bambis* (Born Between 2013 and 2014)
    • Benjamins A (born between 2010 and 2012)
    • Benjamins B (born between 2008 and 2009)

    * Bambis may be accompanied by an adult

    The minimum age of participation in the 10km run is 18 years, applied until the date of the race in accordance with the rules of the FPA – Federação Portuguesa de Atletismo (Portuguese Athletics Federation) for races with distances equal to or greater than 10 km.

    For athletes born up to 1985 the change of rank is made on the basis of the calendar year. For athletes born after that date the change of rank is made according to the date of birth.

    Participants must carry an identification document (ID, citizen card or driver’s license) in which the date of birth is stated in case it is necessary to confirm the age.

     

    2.11 Data changes

    Participants who give their runner number and chip to another person and do not communicate this to the organizers, up to 15 days before the day of the event through info@corridamontepio.pt will be liable for any accident or damage that this athlete suffers, exempting from responsibility the race organizers, partners, supporters and public bodies involved.

    The organizers guarantee the customization of the runner numbers for all submissions made up to 15 days before the date of the race.

     

    2.12 Transfer of image rights

    The participant, in registering, authorizes the free and unconditional use to the MONTEPIO mutual association and the partners of the race of the rights of use to their image, as captured in photographs and filming that will take place during the race, allowing its reproduction in supporting communications.

     

    2.13 Transfer of registration data

    The Montepio Mutual Association will not share their database or participant data with companies outside the group, but may use it for communication/sharing information related to the event.

     

    2.14 Cancellation of registration

    All funds go to the Portuguese Association of the Blind and Visually Impaired and so for solidarity, in the case of cancellation, there will be no refunds of amounts already paid.

    However, up to 15 days before the race, any registrant may give up his or her participation to another athlete, provided that he or she communicate it to the organizers through the e-mail info@corridamontepio.pt.

  6. 3.1 Athlete kits

    10 KM | Main run

    The athlete’s kit consists of a technical T-shirt, a disposable chip and a running number.

    5 KM | Walk

    The athlete’s kit consists of a technical T-shirt and a running number.

    Children | Pelicas race

    The athlete’s kit consists of a cotton T-shirt and two running numbers.

    The organizers guarantee all athletes a T-shirt. The sizes available for the 10 km run and 5 km walk will be: S, M, L and XL.

    Measurements (height x width) of available T-shirt sizes are:

    • S: 69 x 47 cm
    • M: 72 x 50 cm
    • L: 74 x 53 cm
    • XL: 76 x 56 cm

    The sizes available for the Pelicas race are: 4-5 years, 6-8 years, 10-12 years and S.

    Measurements (height x width) of available T-shirt sizes are:

    • 4/5 Years: 49 x 35 cm
    • 6/8 Years: 52 x 38.5 cm
    • 10/12 Years: 56 x 41 cm
    • S: 69 x 47 cm

    The size of each T-shirt will be chosen on the application form of the respective race (10 km run, 5 km walk and pelicas race). The measurements of each size can be consulted also in the application form of each race.

    After the delivery of the participation kit, exchanges of sizes of T-shirts will not be accepted.

    If there is stock available after the event, the organizers will make the exchange.

     

    3.2 Final participation kit

    Athletes with a valid registration who finish the race will be entitled to a race certificate.

    The electronic certificate of participation will be available on the race website for all athletes who finish the 10km run, the 5km and the pelicas race (children).

     

    3.3 Delivery of kits – Date/Time/location

    The collection of the participation kits shall be carried out at the following dates, hours and places:

    • Praça do Comércio
      October 18th (Thursday): from 10am to 8pm in Praça do Comércio (Lisbon)
      October 19th (Friday): from 10am to 8pm in Praça do Comércio (Lisbon)
      October 20th (Saturday): from 10am to 8pm in Praça do Comércio (Lisbon)

    No kits are delivered on the day of the race.

     

    3.4 Documents required for the collection of the participation kit

    • Confirmation of registration received in the email after payment.
    • Identification document (ID, citizen card, driver’s license).

    3.5 Collection of participation kit on behalf of another athlete

    The collection of the participation kit on behalf of another participant may occur provided the following documents are presented:

    • Confirmation of registration of the athlete with runner number received in email after payment
    • Identification document of the person who collects the kit (ID, citizen card, driver’s license).

    3.6 Uncollected kits

    The organizers guarantee that all participation kits paid for but not collected will be stored for a period of 15 days from the date of completion of the race.

    To obtain uncollected participation kits, the athlete should contact the organizers.

    The costs of sending the participation kit will be the responsibility of the athlete.

    After the defined period, the organizers will deliver all the uncollected participation kits to a social institution.

    The final race prizes are exclusive to the participants completing the course, crossing the finishing line with the official runner number and the chip in the 10km run, and with the runner number for the 5km walk and the children’s race.

  7. Information - Runner number and chip

  8. 10km run | Main event

    It is mandatory to use the runner number, in a visible way and at the locations specified by the organization.

    The use of the chip is mandatory.

    The runner number is personal and non-transferable.

    The runner number must be placed on the front of the T-shirt, using the pins provided by the organizers.

    The running numbers of the participants in the run will be different to those used in the walk.

    The chip is encoded for the athlete, being personal and non-transferable.

    The chip is on the back of the runner number and cannot be taken off or removed. If it is taken off or removed the athlete will not be ranked.

    The organizers are not responsible for the failure of the presentation of results that come from incorrect use of the chip.

    All participants who do not comply with these requirements will be disqualified.

    5km walk | Pelicas race

    It is mandatory to use the runner number in a visible way and at the locations specified by the organization.

    The runner number is personal and non-transferable.

    The runner number must be placed on the front of the T-shirt using the supplied pins.

    In the children’s race each athlete will have two equal runner numbers: one to be used by the athlete during the race and another for the parent and/or legal guardian to present when they collect the child.

    The walk and the pelicas race will not be timed and there will be no ranking.

     

  9. Prizes

  10. 5.1 Personal

    The first three finishers, male and female, of the 10km race will receive a commemorative trophy awarded at the end of the race.

    The male and female winners of the 10km race will receive a subscription to an open pension fund to their choice: Future XXI Fund, VIVA Fund, Classic Future Fund or Future Fund Plus, worth €750.

    The second placed male and female of the 10km race will receive a subscription to an open pension fund to their choice: Future XXI Fund, VIVA Fund, Classic Future Fund or Future Fund Plus, worth €500.

    The third placed male and female of the 10km race will receive a subscription to an open pension fund to their choice: Future XXI Fund, VIVA Fund, Classic Future Fund or Future Fund Plus, worth €250.

    Electronic participation certificates will be available on the race website – montepio.org. The certificate for the athletes in the 10km run will have reference to the age bracket in which they are running and the place in which they finished the race.

     

    5.2 Prizes per tier

    There are no prizes per tier

  11. Disqualification of participants

  12. The organizers will not allow participation in the race/disqualify any athlete who:

    • Fakes any part of the application
    • Is not present at the start, with respect to the provisions of Point 1.6 of these rules
    • Does not respect the organizers instructions
    • Arrives in poor physical conditions
    • Does not have a runner number
    • Does not make the runner number visible on the front of the T-shirt and keeps it visible at locations specified by the organization
    • Uses the runner number of another athlete
    • Folds or manipulates the advertising on the runner number
    • Uses the chip provided inappropriately
    • Uses more than 1 chip
    • Uses another athlete’s chip
    • Does not comply with the signs placed by the organizers and skips the starting blocks
    • Does not complete the course in its entirety
    • Demonstrates unsporting behavior (e.g. pushes and obstructs to intentionally harm other athletes)
    • Does not respect the remaining participants
